I got a chance to play around more with Ubuntu a bit more over the last few days, as it’s been my main operating system since I installed it. I hadn’t yet tried out Ubuntu One as I usually avoid any type of cloud storage for personal use.
I figured I would give the free version a whirl and see how it did. I was impressed! It is compatibale with all operating systems, and has apps for iPhones, Androids, and Windows phones. Smart move on the choice of Ubuntu, as many people will want to easily share photos and files from there phone on to other devices easily.
Ubuntu One comes with 5GB of free storage, uploads files quickly and syncs well across all platforms. I also got the chance to try out the iPhone app. It was decent too, and as I would expect given how user friendly the latest Ubuntu is, the iPhone app is no different. It’s easy to figure out, intuitive and has a clean look.
There is also the opportunity for $4/month or $40/year to up your storage and get music streaming(you can also stream offline). I haven’t tried the music streaming, so I am not sure if it’s any good, but given the rest of the Ubuntu setup I would suspect it works well.
I am impressed by this latest effort by Ubuntu, and I would be a tough sell to switch over to any other cloud based storage.I give it 6 crushed beer cans out of 6
