It’s rare for a company, especially a company like Apple, to offer a major upgrade for free. Most of the time, updates to new operating system are fairly expensive and relatively involved processes for the average consumer.

I found it interesting when Apple release Maverick for free. All you have to do is make sure you have a compatible Mac, download it, throw it on a DVD and install it. What exactly made Apple decide to make the decision to offer the upgrade to Maverick this easy? It seems uncharacteristic of Apple.
I think there is a large degree of being scared. In the last 2 years since the death of Steve Jobs, and the recent departure of the Mac divisions VP to Tesla, there is little real guidance in the company. Where is their visionary and leader to drive the way for the company?
I have no doubt that Maverick is a decent product, nor do I have any doubt that the next few major releases of Apple products will decent. But if Maverick and the recent iPhone products are any indication, it’s that Apple needs to hire some top talent, and they need to do it before their roadmap runs out in 2016. If they are not able to do this, then I would be surprised if we have Apple around as a company in 10 years.
